Our meetings are held in Finnish but we created this page to help non-Finnish speaking families to find information about scouting 🙂
What is guiding and scouting?
Guiding and scouting is a wonderful hobby where kids and young people get to learn new things about nature, themselves, other people and surrounding living environment. By joining the Guides and Scouts you get to pick up new things by doing them yourself instead of reading about them in books. Guiding and Scouting is for everyone and a hobby where each individual can truly make a difference!
Everyone is welcome to join Guiding and Scouting! Guiding and Scouting is all about doing things together: hiking, skiing, canoeing, sailing, practising first aid, making crafts and honing your woodcraft skills in the great outdoors.
The Scout Movement is an international youth movement with tens of millions of members around the world. The essence of Guiding and Scouting is engaging in a diverse assortment of activities together with others and interacting with a wide variety of people. Where you come from is not important. All you need is a willingness to get involved.

Note: in many other countries guiding and scouting differ but Finnish scouting includes both scouting and guiding as we are members of both WOSM and WAGGGS.
Mynämäen Maahiset
Mynämäen Maahiset ry is a scout group (partiolippukunta) with over one hundred members in Mynämäki, SW Finland. You can join us regardless of your age, sex, religion, etc. Our language is Finnish. Our main target group is children and youngsters from age 7 to 22. We also have activities for adults. Scouting is based on voluntary work and all our leaders are volunteers.
Our background community is Mynämäen seurakunta (Evangelical Lutheran Parish of Mynämäki) who gives us funds, meeting place (kolo) and we have collaboration with them. You don’t have to be religious or member of the church to join scouts. We have members from different religious backgrounds! Our second most important funder is the municipality of Mynämäki (Mynämäen kunta).
Finnish scouts call their meeting place kolo. Out kolo is in basement of the parish building. The address is Keskuskatu 17, Mynämäki. See map here.
Mynämäen Maahiset ry is a member of Lounais-Suomen Partiopiiri (Scout District of Southwest Finland) and Suomen Partiolaiset (Guides and Scouts of Finland).
How can I join? How much does it cost?
Contact our leaders! They will help you finding a suitable group for you/your child and give you more information. You can see our groups here (in Finnish): Ryhmät. You can attend three meetings before you must fill membership application and pay membership fee.
Annual membership fee:
All who are 17 or older are payment category 1 members. If there are more scouts in the family, all under 17 are payment category 2 members. If all scouts in the family are under 17, one of them is payment category 1 member and others payment category 2 members.
Family scouting: Adults are payment category 1 members. Children from ages 4 to 6 are payment category 3 members. Children from ages 0 to 3 don’t have to pay membership fee.
- Payment category 1: 76,50 € (in 2025)
- Payment category 2: 76,50 € (in 2025)
- Payment category 3: 15,25 € (in 2025)
A member can be freed from membership fee because of financial, social or health-related reasons. The purpose of the exemption of membership fee is to ensure that children and young people from families of limited means also are able to join the Scouts. You can apply for an exemption of membership fee at any time before the due date of the membership bill. An exemption of membership fee is granted by the Scout District.
More information about membership fee and applying for an exemption of membership fee: scouts.fi/contact-information/membership-fees-and-invoicing/
Participation fees:
Some events and camps have participation fees. A weekend camp costs 10-30 euros. Longer and bigger camps (e.g. summer camps) cost 80-200 euros.
If your family has 50 euros or more past-due invoices from us, you must pay them before you can participate our camps again.
You can apply for exemption of participation fee because of financial, social or health-related reasons. For events and camps organized by Mynämäen Maahiset, you can apply for exemption of participation fee by filling out this form and sending it to our local group leader (lippukunnanjohtaja) before the event. For participating camps organized by the Scout District or the Guides and Scouts of Finland you can apply for a scholarship when signing up for the camp.
Equipment:
For weekly meetings, a scout needs indoor and outdoor clothes and shoes. It is essential to dress for the weather 🙂
For camps, you need a backpack (rinkka) or a duffel bag that can fit all your belongings and is easy to carry. You also need a sleeping bag and sleeping pad. Make sure they are suitable for the temperature. If unsure, contact the camp leader. Other equipment that are usually needed are toiletries, a headlamp, a knife (puukko) and durable (no glass/ceramic) plate, mug and cutlery.
Scout uniform:
You will get a scout neckerchief and nearly all scout badges free of charge from Mynämäen Maahiset (they are included in the membership fee). You have to buy the uniform yourself. Scout neckerchief is worn at all events related to scouting. Uniform is worn in festive occasions such as scout parade, Saint George’s Day and church.
Children under 13 wear a dark blue sweatshirt with our logo. You can buy the sweatshirt from your leader. Older scouts wear a blue uniform shirt. Scandinavian Outdoor sells scout uniform clothes. More information about uniforms and how to sew badges can be found here (in Finnish).
